The steering is nicely weighted, the body motions are well-controlled and the ride is taut. In the hybrid, a 2.4-liter four-cylinder is supported by a pair of electric motors and delivers 248 horsepower. The Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in hybrid can go from zero to 60 MPH in 6.5 seconds.
Driving range
The Mitsubishi Outlander plug-in hybrid with a 20-kilowatt battery pack provides 38 miles of driving range per charge running only with electricity. That puts you just slightly ahead of competitors like plug-in hybrid versions of the Ford Escape. Charging at home will take you about 6.5 hours. There's a DC fast charging system available but the charging port is somewhat obsolete and may be hard to find.
Fuel economy
The all-wheel drive Outlander can give you an EPA-estimated 24 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway. With front-wheel drive, you'll do a little better with 24 MPG on city streets and 31 MPG on highways around New Milford and Little Ferry NJ.
